IN THE HEART OF THE ETERNAL RUSSIA. Lereculey Interview with Jérôme.
Accustomed to working with scripts by David Chauvel, begins a new partnership ...
I wanted to work with my wife Martine, put my drawings in the service of his scripts. Both were very impressed by the reading of Vij ( Viy * ) and developed the idea of \u200b\u200badapting in a fairly free Gogol's story .
Immerse in the heart of the Ukraine early, with his Cossacks and their legends. What attracts them to this universe?
eternal Russia makes us dream, like many others, with the Russia of the stories, the snowy forests, inhabited by the horrible Baba-Yaga, the kibitkas, the isbased, the Troika, the vodka. .. all mixed with the world of vampires, Vlad Dracul, the Vurdalak of Transylvania. We had fun with this fantastic vision of Eastern Europe, Egypt to Siberia, which transposed into this dark history of posthumous revenge.
What have been your graphic references?
To create this universe orthodox Gothic style, Martine and I had some very important graphic references, as the work of Ivan Bilibin , great illustrator of Russian folklore, but we also had in mind the gloomy atmosphere of the film " Ivan the Terrible "of Eisenstein and the wonderful movie" Sadko " .
Baba Yaga by Ivan Bilibin.

We are accustomed to male characters, masculine, like "Arthur" or "7 Voleurs" developed here a female character, that of a witch ...
I love that character, seductive yet terrifying. I wanted to honor him, graphically speaking, to their fellow small water sprites, to what Martin has helped me tremendously. It is very handy to have a model to look at home!
Finally, what are your next projects?
After this enriching family experience again with my colleague David Chauvel, to develop the universe we address in "7 Vouleurs" with a new fantasy story, "Le Matin des Cendres" which was published early 2010 ... To another.
