THE Malediction des Trente Deniers , the album Damn Blake & Mortimer, finally finished.
As already mentioned on occasion, the new adventures of Blake & Mortimer, written by Jean Van Hamme, was postponed by the sudden disappearance of René Sterne, but has just been completed by his partner Chantal De Spiegel, with the help of Etienne Schréder. Will be posted in late November.
René Sterne was elected in 2003 by the Editorial team of Dargaud to draw the double album "La malediction des trente deniers", based on a screenplay by Jean Van Hamme, but everything was cut short by the death of Sterne in November 2006, leaving the album unfinished.
René Sterne was completed and inked the 29 first pages and had made sketches and development of the remainder of the first album. In 2005 he explained the reasons for the delay: "Respect for the original work requires a high degree of consistency and rigor. I studied the work in depth before starting work. I needed to find the thread to start pulling. I want to make Blake ; Mortimer I'd like to read, and also give my own interpretation of this symphony jacobsiense "

great knowledge of the work of Edgar P. Jacobs, Jean Van Hamme wanted to write a story about an axis articulated had not explored in their previous two albums in the collection: "If you look Jacobs's work, he said, we perceive that is structured around three main themes: fantasy, espionage and archeology. Ted Benoît and I already discussed the first two. So we had the third! This album is about the issue of early Christians and the death of Judas. "
René Sterne spoke of the story on its website this way:" It is a bewitching story, full of spells, adventure, travel and charm , which will be Blake, Mortimer and Olrik, of course. An evil among the wicked. And what's worse ... two beautiful girls, cars, boats, planes and action, everything that I like. An ancient curse twice with devastating effects ... "A return to tradition-fantastic archaeological series, on the thirty silver coins given to Judas by the high priests of Jerusalem for betraying Jesus, and whose action takes place in Greece.
René Sterne's death left Blake & Mortimer and his character fetish, Adler, orphans. After some months of reflection, his wife, Chantal De Spiegel, also cartoonist (Madila published by Lombard) agreed to continue their work . A brave decision and to master the universe jacobsiano codes is complicated. One task, imagine, emotionally exhausting.
In February 2009, explained that his priority was to complete the album: "In these situations, to resume work started, the author has made, seek to dominate a universe that is not yours. It's stressful."
was even said that two artists were joined in recent months to accelerate the completion, Etienne and François Schréder Schuiten. Schréder
had helped Ted Benoit in "L'Etranger rendez-vous" in tasks of documentation and drawing sketches for the decoration elements, essentially technological. We also owe the poignant "Amer Saisons." According to the same Chantal De Spiegel Etienne Schréder only helped him on the set in order to gain time, she being the person in charge of finalizing the remaining 25 pages, while François Schuiten has not contributed anything to the album, because their proposals failed to convince.
This album, which should be out in late November, is one of the most anticipated of the season. The interim cover is reproduced here.
But the adventure continues and the second part will be done by Aubin Frechon, an artist known for BD enthusiasts, apparently emerged from the world of animation, worked on the show "Winnie the Pooh" and is currently working on the second volume of "La malediction des trente deniers." A double album with an unusual accomplishment, but hopefully neither history nor the picture will suffer for all these adventures.
